2024 CSMU Interdisciplinary Approaches and Autonomous Learning 跨領域與自主學習 (SDG4)

CSMU Higher Education SPROUT Project in the Year of 2024– The projects aim to promote the development of CSMU in the realm of higher education enhancement, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches and autonomous learning execution. Through initiatives such as Professor Chang Yuan-Yan’s (張元衍教授) Career Anchors Exploration Courses, Professor Chang Yan-Qing’s (張炎清教授) Smart Innovation Talent Cultivation Program, Professor Chung Shih-Chi’s (鍾詩琦教授) International Occupational English Proficiency Training, Professor Tseng Ming-Hsing’s (曾明性教授) Reading and Writing Learning Program, and Professor Lin Pei-Ya’s (林培雅教授) Cultivation of Cultural Literacy through Diverse Teaching, the goal is to foster students’ interdisciplinary competencies and autonomous learning spirits to address the diverse and complex challenges of contemporary society.

These projects, with its distinctive features, execution steps, and objectives, including curriculum design, student support, interdisciplinary learning, and internship activities, aims to ensure that students can smoothly adapt to university life, develop academically, and plan their careers on a solid foundation. Through projects implementation, the university is committed to cultivating medical professionals with interdisciplinary competencies, narrative skills, empathy, and problem-solving abilities.

CSMU’s Definition of Interdisciplinary Approaches and Autonomous Learning:

In the educational philosophy of CSMU, interdisciplinary education refers to the integration of knowledge and skills from different disciplinary fields, breaking the boundaries between medical disciplines, and promoting a teaching model that facilitates the comprehensive development of students. This educational model emphasizes that students not only possess knowledge in individual medical subjects but also have the ability to transcend disciplinary boundaries, integrating knowledge and skills from multiple disciplines to solve complex real-life problems.

Autonomous learning, on the other hand, refers to students, under the guidance of flipped teaching by teachers, actively exploring learning content both inside and outside the classroom, fostering independent thinking and problem-solving skills throughout the learning process. In the framework of interdisciplinary approaches and autonomous learning, students engage in learning based on their interests and needs, transitioning from passive knowledge reception to active participation in the learning process, thereby achieving the goal of comprehensive development as medical professionals.
